INSPIRING CLASSROOMS

Tony Ryan returned with us from Ulearn on Friday night and facilitated a workshop in "Inspiring Classrooms" the next day. 85 from our cluster - and from our neighbouring areas joined us in this calm but fast paced experience which saw us look at ourselves, our futures, our own goals and our practice. Tony's presentation, his handouts and his support material are up on the cluster wiki.

How about it?

Left me thinking about becoming a life coach. Have downloaded some information on this from the 'net and ordered the orange book from www.australiangrowthcoaching.org

This workshop had some interesting strategies e.g. the clock face. This is great but as I was left without a three oclock partner I found I was a bit dis-engaged at the time. A good learning experience. What difference has this made? I made sure the numbers worked when I used this strategy. I don't want others to feel disengaged, as I did.

The workshop also helped me refelct on Vygotsky's socio-dialogical aspects of learning. Talk time is so important. Time for meaningful discussion in learning assists in real connections and allow them to go deeper - as does time for reflection and follow-up. So right Tony! Thanks heaps.

I came home on a high. I have made changes in my approach to life & how I plan to live it. I know these changes in thinking & living will be reflected in every classroom moment. I know the power I have to make or mar a child's day & I feel very humble. Yes, Tony, I can be inspirational! I intend to look after my health & have got back into walking. Lesley.

Thank you for these comments and inspiration! You have jogged me into refreshing a determination to look after myself a bit more too. In doing this we can have a greater impact on those around us, a start to being really "inspirational". Here's the wish for good weather and enjoyable walking this weekend.

I found the workshop truly inspirational! I came away with lots of ideas, and a wish to cotinue feeling inspired about life!
I have turned around my thinking about some family members I have had challenges dealing with, and came across this great quote this morning, that I hope to live by!
"If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming." - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Tony's session was very refreshing. I thought that his message was clear and simple. Creating a thinking environment to encourage engagement is our collective goal in Room 11 this term. His strategies were very simple and easy to apply within the classroom setting.

Encouraging student voice and creating units of work and rubric with the students is the way to go.
