Welcome to Lorraine's blog. Here I would like to discuss, reflect and share items of an ict nature as they apply to education. I am an ICTPD facilitator, have been for 4 1/2 years. It is an exciting world where a love of thinking, problem-solving and learning thrive. Pondering about the future and reflecting on the past enriches this process. Doing this on my own is not nearly as stimulating as doing it with others. Come on in, draw up a keyboard, and join in the chat...

Thank you very much for your comments. Isn't it great to be part of such a great learning community.

I love the quote Paula, particularly the bit about transcending egotistical benefits. I have a concern when people need to put themselves forward with "I" ego statements, and self elevation as if it were a competition to survive. Thinking about the greater good is something important to strive for. In the paper Social and Ethical Aspects of ICT and Society we look at this. It is a huge paper but lots of depth in understanding can come from it. It is definitely not just a surface feature.

Personally, I love working shoulder to shoulder with people. We have such a wealth of talent, experience and view points in our cluster. I have never responded well to the tiered system of power and control and I see so much of it in education. We are over legalised and controlled in our society. A whole change is needed for society as we move into the future. We need to be focusing on educating instead of legislating. I am looking forward to a world where anarchy exisits. Perhaps then we will truly value and respect education, ethics, and empowerment. Differences and sharing will be supported, examined and celebrated, and respect and habits of mind are promulgated.

Hmm, I wonder if our children will become wiser than us?

Isnt it exciting to think of living in a world which gives time and value to the search for wisdom, to looking for the greater good, where richness is determined by the way the people around you feel....

It is great to ponder such things. In the past it has been unmanageable for most of us to retreat and focus on the future, explore, stimulate and share all our ideas. Now we can do it on-line and it can only become easier. How exciting is that!

Perhaps you may like ot commment on my next pst. What do you think -What makes a successful learning community? I would certainly love to read responses. Thanks heaps

Hi Bronwyn, I agree with you. The value of social conversations is a very important concept, as outlined by Vygotsky - but it is certianly easy to overlook as we busy ourselves with so much "doing". I remember wondering if we were busying ourselves with doing too much and hankered for the days of the philosophers. I could be one of those I think! Hmmm, Which do we value more in schools - doing or thinking?

Wow Gabi, what a rich quote. We had a day on Friday where we were exploring various aspects of a learning community.

I also enjoy being part of a rich learning community, one that can take me to a new level of understanding and help me realise the unthought of possibilities. Perhaps we could add, "challenging us to become even more than we ever realised."

Learning is such an exciting galaxy, and often stretches us way beyond our comfort zone. Not always easy, often difficult in fact but the richer through being part of a supportive learning community.

Gabi, Thanks for sharing the journey with me ;-)
